In the 70s, it was not possible to combine punk and pop. Legend has it that bassist Glen Matlock had to quit the Sex Pistols when he admitted he liked the Beatles. Likewise, surely Dee Dee Ramone would have had to leave the Ramones if he said he liked ABBA. It wasn't always better in the past, because nowadays you can combine all the influences you want. A good example of that is GABBA. GABBA is a Swedish tribute band that plays ABBA songs in the Ramones way. The name is a combination of the phrase "Gabba Gabba Hey", from the Ramones song "Pinhead", as well as the full ABBA name of course. TTR current Sator showed early on that you could make punk out of ABBA songs when they did their version of "Ring Ring", GABBA follows that concept fully. GABBA suits ABBA fans with a taste for punk, punks who like ABBA a little secretly and of course they suit the rest of us too. Behind the drums we find none other than TV4's film critic Ronny Svensson!
